Konkani movie ‘My Dear Father’ thrills audience in Kuwait with double premiere shows

Kuwait: The Konkani film My Dear Father was screened in Kuwait with two premiere shows on February 5, 2026, at Ozone Cinema in Khaitan. The event was organised by the Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA). Both shows were houseful on the opening day.

Members of the Konkani community in Kuwait attended the premiere in large numbers. The film had earlier been released in theatres on September 24, 2025, and had received a strong response in coastal Karnataka, where Konkani is widely spoken.

My Dear Father is written and directed by Nellu Permannur. The film is aimed mainly at Konkani-speaking audiences in coastal Karnataka. Music is composed by Vanil Veigas. The cinematography is handled by Danel Jaison, while editing is by Raveen Martis.

The inaugural programme began with MC Reena Rego inviting KCWA President Prakash Pinto and movie core committee members Wilson D’Souza, Roshan Quadras and Naveen Mascarenhas to the stage. Abbasiya Konkani Families Kuwait President Norbert D’Souza and Prashanth Ferrao were also invited.

Fr. Avil Rosario, Spiritual Animator of KCWA, and Fr. Darel Fernandes, Parish Priest of Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Arabia Parish, Ahmadi, were welcomed with bouquets by Prakash Pinto. Pinto addressed the gathering and welcomed the audience. A cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the opening of the premiere.

Fr. Avil Rosario conveyed his best wishes to the team of My Dear Father and expressed hope that the film would be well received.

Fr. Darel Fernandes appreciated KCWA for supporting Konkani films and for its efforts to promote the language. He said such initiatives help preserve cultural identity and encourage younger generations to stay connected with their roots through cinema.

Wilson D’Souza, a member of the movie core committee, delivered the vote of thanks. He thanked all those who supported the premiere. He also expressed special thanks to Roshan Rodrigues for providing the sound system and to core committee member Alban D’Souza for his support.

The audience responded positively to the film during the premiere shows. Many viewers appreciated the performances, direction and the message conveyed through the story.

With both shows drawing full attendance, the premiere marked a successful overseas screening for the Konkani film in Kuwait.
