KCWA holds General Body Meeting in Kuwait, announces major cultural event in December

Kuwait City: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) held its General Body Meeting on May 8 at Indian School of Excellence, with around 200 members and their families participating in the gathering.

The meeting began at 6.30 pm with an opening prayer led by Prakash Gonsalves.

KCWA President Prakash Godwin Pinto welcomed the members and thanked them for their continued support and encouragement towards the association’s activities. He also sought cooperation for the organisation’s upcoming programmes.

Several reports were presented and approved during the meeting. Reena Pereira presented the minutes of the previous General Body Meeting, while Vinitha Pinto submitted the activity report.

Reports related to finance, membership and the education fund were presented by Jinella Rodrigues, Tressy Cutinho and Veena Serrao respectively.

Updates on cultural and sports activities were given by Johnson Dalmeida and Roystun Dsouza, while website and social media developments were presented by Nilton D’Souza.

During the meeting, the association announced plans to organise a major cultural event on December 4, 2026. Members were invited to suggest a suitable name for the programme by June 30, and a special prize will be awarded to the member whose suggestion is selected.

Spiritual Animator Fr. Avil Rosario delivered an address based on the Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians, urging members to remain united and continue working for the welfare of the needy.

Also present was Fr. Darel Fernandes, Parish Priest of the Minor Basilica, Ahmadi Church. He commended KCWA for its educational and humanitarian initiatives and praised the transparent and well-organised conduct of the meeting. He also acknowledged the generosity of the Konkani-speaking community and concluded his remarks by wishing the association continued success.

The members decided to review the organisation’s constitution and formed a constitutional amendment committee to study the existing provisions and recommend necessary changes.

KCWA felicitated former president and life member Maria Rinna D’Souza for her long-standing service to the association as she prepares to leave Kuwait permanently. Life member Anand Joseph D’Souza was also honoured for his continued support to the association’s programmes through his firm, Waves Sounds.

A lucky draw conducted by Tressy Cutinho and Jinella Rodrigues was held before the start of the meeting, and the winner was selected by Fr. Darel Fernandes. Tressy Cutinho, bearing membership number 1323, won the draw.

Prashanth Ferrao proposed the vote of thanks and led the closing prayer. Arun Jossy D’Souza served as moderator for the programme.

The event was supported by several members, including photography by Prashanth Ferrao with assistance from Arwin Rodrigues, projector arrangements by Alban D’Souza, and presentation support by Nilton D’Souza, Jinella Rodrigues and Allan D’Souza. The sound system was provided by Anand Joseph D’Souza through Waves Sounds, while dinner was served by China Metro Restaurant.

The KCWA managing committee thanked all members for attending the meeting and sharing valuable suggestions. The association also expressed gratitude to the management of Indian School of Excellence, Salmiya, for providing the venue.
